Garry has been an avid amateur astronomer for over 20 years. He developed a passion for the night sky at an early age and has continued to pursue that passion through Maui.Star.Trekkers. He has a master's degree in engineering and a member of the Astronomical Society of the Pacific. The theoretical development of the universe and galaxies are his primary interest.
Maui.Star.Trekkers will meet you at the GPS coordinates shown here.
The GPS coordinates are at elevation 6389 ft on Hwy 378. according to google earth, The visitors center is at the top of the Haleakala Volcano National Park, about elevation 10,000 ft. We will begin at about 30 minutes after sundown.
Note: it will take about 30 minutes to arrive at the GPS location from the top. Many places are available going up that provide a less crowded place to view the sunset if you prefer fewer people.
Sunset
You may want to drive up to the top of the Haleakala Volcano National Park to see the sunset then join Maui.star.trekkers on the way down.
If watching the sunset does not appeal to you or your timing does not allow for that, we still invite you to join us on the slopes to watch the evening stars come out at our location.
